3 Tips to Increase Your Network

Ugh, the word “network” is so awful - think of your web of industry friends instead! This makes “networking” (another vile word) so much friendlier - just imagine a cup of tea/coffee/wine and a chat!

I’ve been lucky enough to find some amazing friends in the wedding industry so here’s my top 3 tips for finding new friends or strengthening friendships in our awesome industry…

1 - Chat to other suppliers at wedding fairs

This is such a great way to meet people, even if it’s your first one or you’re a bit nervous, I guarantee there will be someone else there feeling the same way. Start with the person on the stand next to you, just a simple “hello” will do.

If even that feels too much, then write down some open questions you can ask other suppliers, here’s a few…

“Are you local?”

“Have you worked at this venue before?”

Or just – “Hi, I’m (name), it’s so lovely to meet you”

You might get nothing back, or you might start a brilliant conversation!

2 - Find out which other suppliers are working at your weddings, and make sure you say hello to them on the day!

As a wedding harpist, I send a form to all my couples asking for details of the other suppliers whose work I’m likely to see on the wedding day. I always reach out to the photographer on social media to say who I am and that I’m excited to work with them. Then when I share my post of the day, I simply tag all the suppliers in both the description & images/reel itself.

Get in touch if you need help setting this up!

3 - Reach out on Instagram/Threads/TikTok, whatever works for you!

If you love someone’s work – tell them! Or if they’re local to you and you’d like a coffee, ask! You can only ever try. Try this as a template message:

Hi (their name – use their actual name, not business name!), how are you? I’m a local (insert your niche) to you and would love to go for a coffee to chat about the wedding scene in this area! When would be good for you? (Your name) x

For example…

Hi Amanda, how are you? I’m a local harpist to you and would love to go for coffee to chat about the wedding scene in the area. When would be good for you? Harriet x

Choose just one of these tips and action it this week – and don’t forget to tell me the results!

Here’s some photos of me with actual friends who are all other wedding suppliers… and I met them ALL through the wedding scene!
