5 Productivity Tips for Working from Home

So in March 2020, did we all think that 3 years late, #wfh would be such a thing? I certainly didn’t and by that point I was almost exclusively working from home anyway!

But fast forward to 2023, and many more of us are on the work from home train.

Now, I’ve seen enough TikToks comparing working from home in 2020 versus now, and I think we can certainly say we’re used to it.

But are we making the most of it?

If you’re reading this, I’m going to assume you run your own wedding business, or are a business owner who works predominantly from home. Perhaps you have brilliant productive days, and sometimes you just feel like watching TV instead of doing your work. Don’t worry – I get it!

Over the years, I’ve had my fair share of up and down days with productivity but I’ve managed to nail what it is that keeps me going and my creative brain ticking over…

Work in the same place every day…

…in your home. This can be a designated office space, or your dining room table, perhaps even a sofa. Even you can, try to avoid working in bed – sleep experts have said your bedroom should only be used for sleeping and sex!

Choose the Music that Helps You Focus

I am the self-professed queen of content creation while watching a good old crime drama, or re-watching Outlander. But when I need to get into that head down, full on focus mode, it’s music everytime. I’ve created a Trello board for music that helps me focus and I’ve shared some of the Spotify playlists here..

Take Regular Breaks

You must have heard this one before, but the best way I’ve found to actually take a break is to set an alarm on my phone. I tend to work to the same structure every day:

Do Not Disturb

This is by far and a way the best function on our phones – Do Not Disturb! I have mine set up so that it turns on automatically at 8am. This means that my phone only lights up when certain people call me, and I know they’ll only call in an emergency.

Change up the scenery

When you’re in your home, there’s nothing like working in the same space everyday. But sometimes, a change is as good as a rest. I have a shortlist of local cafés saved that I know will spark creativity. Is it the stronger coffee, maybe the ambient music, or simply a change of scene – who knows? But I sometimes rely on this technique if I really need to get the creative juices flowing!

And finally… co-working!

I’ve recently started regular co-working days with Becky from Quirky Fonts and they are a real game changer. We just go over to each other’s house, set up our laptops, stick on the tunes and away we go! The accountability of having someone else with you really does make you crack on with your to do list!

I hope this has helped with some productivity in your life, if you only implement one of these tools then I’d love to know! You can tag me on social at @i_do_social!
