How to Avoid Burnout Running Your Own Business
Running your own business can be incredibly rewarding, but if you're not careful, it can also lead to burnout. I’ve experienced it myself, and over time, I’ve learned a few key strategies that help me keep the balance between work and life. Here’s how you can avoid burnout while running your own business.
First and foremost, set boundaries. This isn’t just with clients but with your friends, your phone, and your working hours too. It's easy to get pulled in all directions, but we need to protect our time. Decide when you're "on" and when you're "off" – and stick to it.
Make sure you get outside every day, even if it’s just for a short walk. Fresh air and a change of scenery do wonders for your mental wellbeing and can boost productivity too.
Every week, carve out some time just for you. Whether it’s a shopping trip, a long bath, diving into a good book, or some peaceful meditation, that “me time” will help you recharge.
Keep talking. Tell people how you're feeling, whether it’s your partner, your friends, or your fellow business owners. Being self-employed is fantastic because you can build a supportive network of like-minded individuals who lift you up, not drag you down like those "mood hoovers" or Debbie-downers.
And finally, don’t be afraid to outsource. You don’t have to do everything yourself. Consider hiring a Virtual Assistant to take tasks off your plate. Whether it’s admin, social media management, or customer follow-ups, outsourcing can free up your time to focus on what you do best. You can find out more about how I can help here.
Remember, running a business is a marathon, not a sprint. Take care of yourself first, and everything else will follow.
